NambuMarket and Cheongnyeon Mall (남부시장&청년몰)

공부로 가득한 일주일 후에 친구들이랑 맛있는 음식을 먹으러 남부시장의 야시장에 가기로 했어요.이 금토 저녁에만 열리는 야시장의 특징은 맛나고 다양한 음식을 맛볼 수 있다는 데에 있어요.입맛이 까다로운 동생부터,고기를 못 먹는 스님 친구까지 너나없이 자기 취향에 맞는 음식을 즐길 수 있네요.식곤증이 온 후에 군중을 피하려고2층에 있는 청년몰에서 시윈한 바람을 쐬었어요.청년들이 운영하는 창의적인 가게들을 보니 굉장히 신선하더라고요. 오후의 한옥마을 구경을 마친 후에 남부시장에 가보는 게 어떨까요?

Afew streets away from Hanok Village(한옥마을) and Pungnammun (전주 풍남문),you can find Nambu Market (남부시장), one of the most touristicplaces in Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do. It is one of the best places to enjoy theevening with some great food and drinks! On a Friday night, Lida, Julia, Axeland I decided to go and see for ourselves why this place was so famous amongKoreans and foreigners. In the end, I got one of nicest experiences that I hadin Korea. It is definitely a Must-Stop if you are in Jeonju!

EveryFriday and Sunday from 7pm to 11pm, this night market opens to visitors. In thefirst floor, you can enjoy three alleys of small kiosks filled with mouthwateringfood and one more of handicrafts. During your visit, you can listen to goodmusic while you are walking and tasting a great variety of Korean andinternational food. The prices are affordable and range from ₩ 3.000 ($2.50) to₩ 10,000 ($9.30). During our visit, we wanted to grab some of the food offeredby this market. We got Korean pork belly with fried kimchi(삼겹살와 김치);pizza bread, cheese-stuffed crab shells, Takoyaki ( 타코야)and Korean sweet pancakes (호떡).

Aftera tour of the market, we headed towards the Cheongnyeon Mall (The Youth mall or“ 청년몰”)on the second floor. This area has a different and youth-inspired style combinedwith urban culture. Going from the traditional market on the first floor toCheongyeon mall was like a breath of fresh air! There are more than 30 charmingstores including various restaurants, coffee shops, small bars, art galleries, handicraftsstores and more. Each of these businesses have their own unique flare, givingyou enough of a reason to go in and check what they offer! On every wall andcorner of this second floor, you can walk and see hand-painted murals andposters with attractive quotes. Cheongnyeon Mall is a gentrificated area that usedto be a storage area for the market below. Nowadays, after undergoingrenovations, it has become an attractive location for visitors while helpingthe local economy. 

Fromyour picky sibling, to your vegetarian monk friend, anybody can find foodsuitable for their tastes! After stuffing yourself with food, how about goingto the Market’s second floor for a breath of fresh air? Here you will find allsorts of creative shops, cafes, and restaurants operated by Jeonju’s youth.After your afternoon Hanok village sightseeing, how about stopping by andgetting a taste of Nambu market?
